Media consolidation writ small
SEATTLE, July 25, 2003 --
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The editorial board of Peace Tree Farm announces that this weblog has been acquired by FanapCo, parent company of Adam Felber’s Fanatical Apathy and (within the last week or so) several hundred other blogs. Although financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, the progress of negotiations between FanapCo and Peace Tree Farm has been reported in several press releases (here and here).
No changes in Peace Tree Farm’s editorial policy or topic areas have yet been announced, though rumors abound in the blogosphere that the weblog may possibly turn its attention to subjects such as textile cleaning, computer-controlled tool-and-die manufacture, and stand-up comedy in Myanmar.
“Although we are excited by this new affiliation with FanapCo, we are intrigued that an alternative offer arrived after the contract with FanapCo was signed,” noted Peace Tree Farm editor-in-chief N in Seattle. “In preliminary discussions, the other guys offered somewhat better remuneration, though we did not have the time to fully discuss their suggested changes in the blog’s editorial focus.”
Independent blogosphere reports indicate that the dollar value of the other suitor’s acquisition package was between three and four orders of magnitude larger than FanapCo’s, but that they intended to focus the blog on advocacy for siting power plants in National Parks, removal of all references to peer-reviewed studies from secondary school science texts, and unrelieved trumpeting of the New York Yankees.

Acquirees unite!
Hear! Hear! I’m in favor of trumpeting the New York Yankees!
Oh dear. I hadn’t noticed that sentence before. Um, Go Brooklyn!
Heh! I put that phrase in there specifically as a Raye-troll. As usual, it worked.
It does fit in, as perhaps the most inconceivable topic for any blog that I would ever be involved in.
Meanwhile, as I write this, the Red Sox just pinned a great big six-spot on the Yankees in the bottom of the 7th, erasing what had been a 3-0 deficit. Not that I’m crowing or gloating ... Sox fans know better than that.
